Facility Improvement Information


Interstate 35 Community School District is pursuing multiple improvements in our school facility:

  •     Auditorium
  •     Career and Technical Education (CTE) building
  •     HVAC (air conditioning)
  •     Fine Arts Center
  •     Enlarged elementary cafeteria
  •     Enlarged high school commons and redesigned main entry
  •     Bus shed
  •     Maintenance shop

Additional information on each of these projects is available by clicking on the various documents below.


The estimated cost of these projects is $12-$15 million. Payment would include the following:

  •     Up to $7 million in general obligation bonds
  •    Remainder from the Secure an Advanced Vision for Education (SAVE – state sales tax penny) revenue

Current general obligation bonds are retired in June 2017; the new general obligation bond would simply replace the existing bond, which means there will be no property tax increase for district patrons.
Patrons of Interstate 35 Schools will be deciding the future of these projects at a special election on Tuesday, February 7, 2017. Polls will be open from 12:00 – 8:00 pm in the following locations:

  •     Lions Hall in New Virginia
  •     St. Charles Parish in St. Charles
  •     City Library in Truro


Voters will answer Yes or No to one ballot question, e.g., shall the district move forward with building these projects.
The Interstate 35 Facilities Committee has organized three information public meetings; all three public meetings begin at 6:30 pm.

  •     Wednesday, January 25, 2017 @ Farmers and Merchants State Bank in St. Charles
  •     Thursday, January 26, 2017 @ Interstate 35 Schools in Truro
  •     Wednesday, February 1, 2017 @ Gerry Allen Building in New Virginia
