Well, if you select Interstate 35 PTO as a charitable organization, when you shop at Amazon they will donate .5% of eligible Amazon Smile purchases to us. The Backpacks Against Hunger is a middle school student council project that porvides backpack with food for the weekend to elemtary families in need. The food is provided by donations from students, community and staff of food items.
The Food Pantry is a high school project as described below:
Mrs. Boyd, family and consumer sciences instructor, pick up our order of food from the Food Bank of Iowa. That food will be stored in the FCS room, where we have a deep freeze and extra refrigerator for perishable items.Once a month, the pantry will be open to families of I-35 students for 2 hours. Those families can 'shop' the pantry during that time or another time, if arrangements are made. The pantry will have things like pasta, toothbrushes, cereal, canned goods, meats, cheese, produce...
The below is information from the website.
The school pantry is designed to help alleviate child hunger through a provision of food to children and families at school. School based pantries are located on the grounds of a school intended to provide a more readily accessible source of food assistance to low-income students and their families.
There is no cost to the school or the student and their family. Students and their families can visit the pantry as needed.
